Why, why, oh my lord why?
Everyone's first question is always "why china?"
I am asked it so often, I just want to start saying "because I like chinese food" or "because I'll be the tallest person there". In truth, I have no idea why I'm here. The opportunity arose and I grabbed it.
I guess it could be because I've never experienced oriental culture. Or maybe because I wanted a year off of university. But I think it was probably because I was so deathly bored at home. So much, in fact, that I had begun to question why I was even doing this. This whole school thing. Why work your butt off, and acquire thousands of dollars of student debt, just to land in some job 10 years down the road that you may or may not want? It didn’t make sense to me. So I did what I am always told I’m good at, walking away. This time I just chose to go as far away as I could.
Do I regret it? No. You can’t just coast through your whole life only accepting the familiar. This world is so huge, I can’t imagine living in it and not knowing what the rest of it is like. Ignorance is the downfall of humanity.
So here I am; in a foreign country, with no knowledge of the native language, and only my laptop and camera. Living with a family who I have just met, and know barely anything about.
It’s time to see what I’m made of. So sack up, and enjoy the, most likely rambling, posts I deem respectable enough for the interwebs.
